WPA Announces 2024 Scholarship Recipients

The Wisconsin Pork Association (WPA) recognized scholarship recipients during the organization’s annual meeting held on February 1st, 2024, in conjunction with the Corn/Soy Expo in Wisconsin Dells. Six high school seniors and college students from across the state were awarded a total of $6,000 in scholarship funds.

Scholarships

Southwest WI Pork Producers Scholarship

Awarded to a high school or college student from either Iowa, Grant, or Lafayette County Wisconsin who has a vested interest in agriculture- preferably the swine industry. (1) $1,000 scholarship.

Fredrich Memorial

Supported by the family of Clarence Fredrich through funding from the Southeast Wisconsin Pork Producers. Three scholarships are available recognizing high school seniors and college freshmen that are pursuing a career in agriculture. (2) $1,000 and (1) $750 scholarship.

Whitmore Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of the late Rex Whitmore who was a master statesman and communicator throughout the swine industry. Applications are available to registered juniors or seniors at UW-Madison, UW-River Falls, or UW-Platteville. (1) $1,500 scholarship.

Gunderson Memorial Scholarship

WPA and the family of Buell Gunderson established this award to recognize the many contributions that Buell and his wife, Bernice, made to the Wisconsin pork industry. The selection committee will award at least one scholarship up to $1,000.

Neil Dierks Scholarship

The 2024 Neil Dierks Scholarship is sponsored by the National Pork Industry Foundation and is managed and administered by the National Pork Producers Council. This scholarship is annually awarded to a student who intends to pursue a career in the pork industry with hopes that they may emerge as a future pork industry leader. (1) $5,000 scholarship

Lois Britt Memorial Scholarship

Sponsored by the CME Group and National Pork Industry Foundation, these are awarded to students who intend to pursue a career in the pork industry with hopes that they may emerge as future pork industry leaders themselves. (10) $2,500 scholarships.
