WPA to Host Annual Meeting with Pork/Corn/Soy Expo

The WPA annual meeting will be held at the Kalahari Resort & Convention Center on February 2, 2017, beginning at 12:00 p.m., in conjunction with the 2017 Pork/Corn/Soy Expo. The WPA Board is currently accepting nominations for awards to be presented during the annual meeting, including WPA Distinguished Service – Industry and Producer, Communicator, and Legislator/Public Service.

During the annual meeting, WPA members will also discuss policy issues. Issues that members are facing can be submitted for consideration as resolutions, which the organization would work to address through legislation or regulatory actions. A resolution establishes a framework for the WPA Board and Staff to follow, and is directed by the membership. Any WPA members who would like to submit resolutions for consideration should contact the WPA office at 800-822-7675 or tvaassen@wppa.org.

Additionally, each year Wisconsin has two producers who attend the Pork Industry Forum as delegates for the National Pork Board’s annual meeting. The meeting takes place in early March. WPA will be conducting an election for delegates for the 2018 Pork Forum during the annual meeting. To be eligible to serve as a forum delegate, you must be a Wisconsin resident, be an individual producer or authorized representative of a producer, have checkoff assessments paid in full, and you must be eighteen years of age or older. If you would be interested in being nominated as a delegate to attend the 2018 Pork Industry Forum, contact the WPA office.

WPA is seeking nominations for individuals interested in serving on the WPA Board of Directors. Three board positions are eligible for election in 2017: Bill Gnatzig, At-Large; Mike Salter, North District; and Shannon Wolf, Southwest District. All three are completing their first term on the board and are eligible for re-election.

Board terms are three years in length, and board members may serve two complete terms. If you are interested in running for the board, or would like to nominate someone, please contact the WPA office or a board member.
